My research addresses innovations in medical technology in in-patient and ambulatory palliative care. We focus on touchless sensor technologies such as radar-based detection of vital parameters and other biomarkers (e.g. www.nature.com/articles/s41598-018-29984-5). Another emphasis lies on utilization of digitalization and artificial intelligence to support patient care (e.g. www.fau.de/2021/05/news/wissenschaft/zuwendung-am-lebensende).

  • Radar-based detection of microscopic movements to assess heartbeat and breathing (BMBF-funded project GUARDIAN, 16SV7695)
  • Radar-based detection of heart rate variability to detect epileptic seizures (BMBF-funded project BrainEpP, 13GW0295)
  • Using rule mining to assess and predict symptom burden in palliative patients
  • Using mixed-method approach to arrive at a comprehensive understanding of communication and collaboration processes in multiprofessional palliative care teams and research into digitalization of said processes (bidt-funded project PALLADiUM)
  • Sensor- and user-interface-based data (biometric and psychometric) in multifunctional applications to support in-patient and ambulatory palliative care (EITHealth project PENTALOBES, EITHealth Project PalSens)
