Glaucoma, VR-systems, Telemedicine. We make research in glaucoma using the whole spectrum from VR techniques, cloud-based digital applications (diGA), and finally cranial MR. MR-DTI is used for examining glaucomatous changes in the visual pathway. In cooperation with the Talkingeyes&More GmbH and the technical faculty of FAU (Prof. Eskofier), we developed the cloud-based digital application SmartTonoTracker(R) and the VR-Smartphone-based perimeter VR-SPP. The SmartTonoTracker(R) allows patients to monitor intraocular pressure and symptoms and gives smart recommendations. The VR-Smartphone-based perimeter allows home-based perimetry in glaucoma patients. All data were integrated into MedStage(R), a cloud-based electronic patient chart. The goal is a hybrid process, beginning with home-based diagnostics and ending up with the cranial MR, when necessary.

Research projects

  • VR-techniques to examine visual field (glaucoma, Stroke)
  • VR-techniques to examine oculomotor based diseases (concussion, stroke)
  • VR-techniques to train 3D-visual perception Digital architecture processing glaucoma therapy (hybrid health)

Current projects

  • Das Okulomotor Test System in der Virtuellen Realität -- Telemedizinische Detektion von Gehirnerschütterungen in VR

    (Third Party Funds Single)

    Term: 1. April 2021 - 31. December 2023
Funding source: Bayerisches Staatsministerium für Wirtschaft, Landesentwicklung und Energie (StMWi) (seit 2018)
    URL: https://www.mad.tf.fau.de/research/projects/vr-ots/

The aim of the project is to develop a rapid automated diagnosis (using artificial intelligence) of a fusion disorder in cases of e.g. concussion by measuring the oculomotor function (eye-tracking) for three-dimensional stimuli.
